How does it looks like an organization without a Business Architecture?
what's so new? why everyone is talking about it? Does a startup needs one or it is only for midsize and big companies? Is there a "how- to" framework?
Lisa Marie Martinez • Let me try to offer my perspective. I wouldn't consider the practice new, in fact the lack of understanding is an indicator for me. Governance issues, master data management and data quality all fall into the "symptom" or "evidence" that the companies primary Business Management System has failed.
Let me clarify and add that when I speak on this subject, I am not talking about a technology.

Activity undertaken by businesses to identify, evaluate, and improve business processes. This type of action is essential to businesses seeking to improve process performance related issues so that they can better serve their clients.

2. Quality: Total range of inherent variations in a stable process.
To stay in theme with my position, a BMS would not be at risk nor would any application be required to consolidate customer and products if the companies ERP systems were in order and being controlled as the Policies, procedures and process dictates.
Any and all companies need a business architecture in the smaller and medium size companies these are generally a person closest to the executives. I held this role, without the Business Architecture title rather as an Analyst.
There's a group of people working on the BABoK, however that isn't finalized yet. The business architecture guild would be where to find this guide.
